Flow or Freeze?
As I write to you, I cannot believe we’re halfway through November. These past eleven months have felt like living in a time capsule that travels at two speeds. It’s either speeding uncontrollably like a train derailed. Or, it’s moving at a frustratingly slow pace.
The photo (above) I took last month. In the midst of fall, an intense yet brief hailstorm pelted ice onto the crunchy leaves. I watched in awe, and its significance became clear. Two seasons merged unexpectedly. I’m grateful for witnessing this fleeting moment.
Do you flow or freeze? As autumn leaves and winter arrives, I realized this could be a metaphor for our nation. Our beliefs, backgrounds, and seasons coexist. We can unite or divide. We can hurt or heal (ourselves and each other). The choice is ours. I hope the beauty of contrasts bridge–rather than break–our community, country, and world.
So today it felt fitting to share some photos from my fall visit in Vermont! It’s my favorite season. Perhaps it’s because I never experienced it here in Florida? Unless a brown, fallen palm frond counts!
On a deeper level, it represents renewal and reflection for me. And it is a visual, magical reminder that death can be beautiful. Most of all, I marvel at the rainbow of color as I contemplate all of which I will let go. This isn’t easy for me. And I look to the leaves for inspiration. I learn from their graceful departure as they shed without regret.
We are in a period of palpable, global transition. I hope the images below inspire you to pause and release whatever no longer serves you. Wishing you a safe, healthy, and meaningful month.
