We connect. We converse. It’s real talk in real time.
What began as a blog nearly five years ago has transformed into an inclusive podcast with authentic, honest conversation. I’m beyond thankful for each insight, each person, each episode. Sharing our stories is more important than ever. It provides wisdom, perspective, and a safe space for all voices to be heard. I deeply appreciate the guests who have gifted me their candid stories on the Every Soul Has a Story Podcast.
Can you believe that we are in APRIL? I’ve barely wrapped my mind around 2022, and then spring, and now…April. I am grateful for all of the heartfelt guests this year. If you are a local to my podcast—thank you for tuning in! If you are new—welcome! I’m so glad you are here.
This platform is an inclusive space for connection where I host interviews with guests from around the globe. It’s real talk in real time. Our conversations are LIVE on Instagram and become available shortly after on daralevan.com, iTunes, and Spotify. If you’d like to listen to the latest episodes, please scroll below!
Steven Rowley
Steven is the author of the bestselling books LILY AND THE OCTOPUS, THE EDITOR, and his latest novel, THE GUNCLE. His writing has been published in twenty languages. His works are in development stages of being made into feature films. Steven has worked as a freelance writer, newspaper columnist and screenwriter. Originally from Portland, Maine, he is a graduate of Emerson College.
We discussed grieving (humans and pets), overcoming challenges, rejection in publishing, living an authentic life, and Steven’s passion for telling poignant, witty, and heartwarming stories.
“Pets are full fledged family members. And yet we haven’t evolved the conversation about how we grieve them at the same rate as we have accepted them into our families. These can be real, debilitating losses.”
Alison Hammer
Alison and I chatted about balancing a full-time job and author life. We also discussed Jewish representation in fiction books, Jewish community, and stories that empower, educate, and uplift others. We talked about “protecting the flame,” which is Alison’s mantra for 2022.
Alison is co-writing an upcoming book with @bradeighgodfrey, which will release in June! Check out their process and journey at @alibradybooks.
“I need to protect the flame and not get burnt out. Whether that’s going for a walk or saying no to an extra project. I’ve started to shift.”
Maggie Smith
Maggie is a former psychologist and CEO/founder of a national art consulting company. In 2017 she pursued her dream to become a full-time writer. Maggie is also the host of “Hear Us Roar,” a podcast for the Women’s Fiction Writers Association.
Her debut novel, TRUTH AND OTHER LIES, released last month. The novel is at its heart about how, at a formative age, young women often pattern themselves after someone older and seemingly wiser and how that choice can affect the trajectory of their lives.
“Whenever you get stuck, just ask why. So you’re continually trying to see if you can dig and understand the character.”
Dara Kurtz
Dara opens the cover of the book of life, revealing that life is not always as picture perfect as it may seem. She’s bravely written and spoken about personal struggles (the big C word, being one) and how they have taught her to focus on every moment, connecting with others, and taking steps to live a meaningful life.
She makes the most of her crazy perfect life and hopes others will, too.
Dara is the author of “My Mother’s Daughter: Wisdom on Life, Loss, and Love” and “Crush Cancer: Enlightenment from a Cancer Survivor.”
We talked about thriving after cancer, loss, gratitude, and living an authentic life. And how there are always silver linings—even during the toughest times.
“I am someone who embraces the imperfect, all the crazy. I give myself permission to be who I am.”
Gabi Coatsworth
Gabi is a British-born writer, blogger, and published author of essays and short stories. Her memoir, LOVE’S JOURNEY HOME, will debut in May.
We chatted about how Gabi navigates her life in the United States while staying authentic to her British heritage, the love story behind her latest work, and her preference for strong tea.
“I believe as long as there’s someone alive who remembers that person, then they haven’t gone. They’re still around.”
Dan Blank
Dan helps writers foster meaningful connections with readers and launch what they create. He has cultivated a perspective that shifts the negative connotation of the word “promote” into a clear vision of sharing and engaging with audiences.
Dan and I discussed his journey from “art kid” to a fulfilling, meaningful, and creative career.
“I’ve always felt that you can create art just for you – and that’s a wonderful thing. But if you do want to publish or share it, to me that’s when art becomes complete.”⠀
